Our Mission

The club's name will be ‘Katte’s Book Club’ and our main focus is to create a community for readers to be able to buddy read together and share our ideas and opinions. We want to create a safe space for readers and people who want to get into reading to be able to enjoy this hobby. This club being created would encourage more students to get into the hobby of reading, which inadvertently helps them engage in more useful activities with their time; alongside other benefits associated with reading. Students will be able to broaden their vocabularies, improve their creativity and imagination, and work on their stress management through reading. These all align with Katedralskolan’s student needs, as by reading they will be able to interact with their peers better due to the positive effects associated with reading, it will help new social bonds and relationships to be formed between students and overall help make the school a better place in terms of the environment.

Our primary goal of this club is to be a safe environment where people can participate by sharing their passions of reading, and for new readers who do not know where to start to have a sense of direction when it comes to starting a hobby. We want to be welcoming to all, and contrast the negative connotation reading may have due to the perception of being “forced” to read for English classes as students. We will allow students to vote on the book of the month which we will be reading as a group, providing a sense of personal freedom and self expression when it comes to suggesting books. Some activities which could be organized by our club may include, but are not limited to- weekly meetings. Every month there will be a book chosen to be read by the club, and with this book there will be chapters of the book to be completed for each meeting. In these weekly meetings we will discuss the chapters of the certain book that were assigned and share our opinions and findings.

The benefits of joining our club would be that our members will be able to find a community of people with their similar interests and be able to build connections and bonds with them. We want our members to enhance their own reading comprehension skills. From discussions with others and the sharing of different perspectives, we hope that they will be able to improve their critical thinking and analysis skills. From engaging in multiple conversations, we hope our members will develop their verbal communication skills and their active listening skills. We want to make reading not seem like a chore, but something to enjoy and have multiple great conversations about. We hope to create benefits for the community as a whole. We hope that our members will want to participate in events that will promote reading to the local community. We want our members to be able to promote reading and the vast genres of books. In simple words the benefits of joining our club would be:
